Currently, the yield levels of crops like pulses and oilseeds have remained stagnated and as a result, the country's dependence on imports has also risen in the recent months.
"The increased dependency on imports of pulses and edible oils is threatening food security of the country and the government needs to take steps to increase the agricultural output," Father of India's Green Revolution and Chairman of National Commission on Farmers M S Swaminathan told PTI in an e-mailed interview.
